The Power Of Ayurveda
Ayurveda is wisdom that is within each and every one of us and is constantly evolving in today’s world. This ancient healing system of natural medicine originated in India and is founded upon a profound understanding of our human connection to nature; our natural daily rhythms are deeply connected to the cycles found in nature.
Ayurveda involves understanding diet, exercise, massage, and the use of herbal remedies for balancing the patterns of energy in the body known as the doshas. Ayurveda invites us to form a closer relationship with our anatomy and personality to discover which of the doshas govern our true nature or prakriti.
Prakruti is the blueprint or pattern of the physical, emotional and mental being and it can be used to understand ourselves. What is most important is the knowledge of balance or imbalance. The orderly functioning of our constitution creates ease. The disorder of our constitution creates dis-ease. Of course, we are as individual as the difference in our thumbprints. These physical, emotional and mental patterns create who we are and if we pay attention to them, we may create and maintain balance in our life.
The prakruti emerges at birth and shapes who we are. We are made up from varying levels of each of the five elements: Air, Ether, Fire, Water, & Earth. Our physical characteristics, likes and dislikes, our way of looking and perceiving, our strengths and weaknesses are all part of who we are. This pattern is not an imbalance but a series of creative differences, which make all of us unique and different. The constitution allows us to see the duality in nature; that good comes with bad. Choices we make can create health or ill health, balance or imbalance. Therefore, to be wise, to be whole we must understand whether or not we are living in harmony.
When we are challenged by dis-ease, it is important to try and learn from the journey we are on; to find ways to bring healing into one’s life. How we look at the problem at hand is important. If we embrace the dis-ease and see it as our body’s way of showing us that we need to make change, a powerful healing can take place. Healing is an innate process in the body; with the right tools your body finds the power to transform into a state of health and wellbeing.
Eating foods that are going to support the strength of the digestive fire is the key. For example; having a light diet if needed, as well as drinking hot water to improve the flow in the channels and digestive fire. Feel into your body and try and understand what the digestive fire is saying and be kind. Use digestive aids like salt and ghee as well as soups, veggies and spicy fruit that are cooked if digestive support is needed.
When we are high in life force, our digestion functions well. Our body works better and our mind is clearer and is able to focus. Most of us don’t pay much attention to this vital force. We are not just the mind, the body and the spirit. We are more than that, we also have energy, the vital force that governs our whole state of being. By paying attention to this, we avoid things that may be destructive. With this understanding, we are able to make changes to our life style; creating positivity and good health. Your body is your temple; treat it well and it will reward you.
